Pizzerias in Atlanta with brick ovens and fresh ingredients?

I am looking for places that use an actual brick oven and fresh ingredients that they prepare right there. I have a preference towards a place where i could watch them cook the food and a good environment.Somewhere where i can get toppings and crust that were made in the restaurant, and not packaged and shipped to them. Not pizza hut, papa johns, or domino or any place like that.

If not in Atlanta, somewhere close. Douglasville or North Decatur works too.

Earlier tonight I was reading about Vingenzo's, acclaimed for its wood-fired pizzas, fresh pasta and homemade cheeses. It's located downtown Woodstock, in a cute, revitalized part of town. I haven't been, but it got a good review, and we plan to try it.

It's not in your target area -- but it's worth a drive when you have nothing cookin'. There are frequent concerts and events going on in the summer, right by the restaurant.

Every Budget Pizza Ovens

Wood burning pizza ovens are quick, simple, and effective devices that date back to the ancient Roman Empire. Made from refractory clay or firebrick, both materials commonly used due to their ability to withstand intense heat, the ovens were very humble in design and practical as appliances. The clay and firebrick were often abundantly available and cheap, so traditional wood burning pizza ovens became a staple. Today, they are coming back into prominence due to their simplicity. A fire is all that is needed, and one can manipulate that fire to create all manner of food besides pizza. Families are returning to the once familiar and simple goodness of a wood burning pizza oven to create pizza, meat, breads, and more.
Contemporary wood burning ovens can be installed indoors in one's kitchen or outdoors on the patio like a charcoal barbecue grill. They can be constructed as small and compact units, or come large enough to feed a family of four. Some of the oven domes are built small enough just for one pizza, and this may be sufficient for those seeking the traditional Sicilian pizza pie. As long as the ovens are well-insulated, this size will suffice. However, for more robust baking, it is advisable to add at least two inches or more of brick around the outer dome. This casing intensifies the interior heat energy, allowing one to roast and bake nearly anything, and at one's own pace. You can bake a pizza in 90 seconds or slow cook a shank all day. In fact, wood burning pizza ovens often seen in pizzerias and restaurants can become intensely hot due to the burning firewood, and these ovens can maintain the high temperatures far more efficiently and with less cost than other types of appliances. When we walk into a modern pizzeria and see a fire inside the wood burning pizza ovens, the scent and heat from the firewood not only create a more authentic ambience, but the embers cook a perfect pizza every time.
At home, wood burning ovens are easily crafted in a number of sizes. They are great projects for the handy man or woman due to their simple design and the fact that one can more or less build to his or her own specifications. Costs, too, vary considerably depending upon many factors, including the layers of insulation required for the type of baking desired.

Cheap Pizza Oven

English: Picture of an authentic Neapolitan Pi...

The World is Treated to Pizza

There are many different opinions as to who to deserves credit for the invention of pizza. You may have assumed, like so many others, that pizza was strictly an Italian creation. But a little bit of research reveals that the foundations for our modern day pizza may go back much farther than we would ever have imagined.

The Egyptians made a flatbread and the Indians baked naan in hot Tandoori ovens, but neither of these had toppings. Around 500 B.C. Persian soldiers baked a flatbread on their shields which they covered with cheese and dates, but was it a pizza?

The ancient Greeks had a flat bread called plakountos, on which they placed various toppings such as oil, herbs, spices and dates and by the 18th century this spread to Italy where the flatbreads called "Pizzas", were sold on the streets and in the markets.  Initially, they were not topped with anything. Even though tomatoes reached Italy by the 1530's it was widely thought that they were poisonous and were grown only for decoration. However the innovative (and probably starving) peasants of Naples started using the supposedly deadly fruit in many of their foods, including their early pizzas. Since these pizzas were relatively cheap to make but were tasty and filling, they were being sold on the streets of Naples for every meal . As pizza's popularity increased, street vendors gave way to actual shops where people could order a custom pizza with many different toppings. By 1830 the "Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba" of Naples had become the first true pizzeria and this institution is still producing masterpieces.

It took some time, however, for the rest of society to accept this crude peasant food. Legend has it that in about the year 1889, Queen Margherita noticed many people eating this flat bread while touring her Italian Kingdom with her husband Umbeto I. Curious, the Queen ordered her guards to bring her one of these pizza breads. The Queen loved the bread and would eat it every time she was out amongst the people, despite its reputation as peasant's food. Eventually, she summoned Chef Rafaelle Esposito to the royal palace to bake pizza for her.

In honor of the beloved Queen, Chef Rafaelle decided to show his patriotism and designed a pizza especially for her.  He baked a pizza topped with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and fresh basil to represent the colors of the Italian flag: red, white, and green.

This became the Queen's favorite pizza, which not only made her even more popular with the Italian people, but started a culinary tradition, the Pizza Margherita. This tradition, which lasts to this very day in Naples, has now spread throughout the rest of the world.

Today, pizza takes on many forms satisfying nearly every kind of culture and cuisine. Americans eat approximately 350 slices of pizza per second. And 36 percent of those pizza slices are pepperoni slices, making pepperoni the number one choice for  pizza toppings in the United States. However, in India pickled ginger, minced mutton, and paneer cheese are the favorite toppings for pizza. In Japan, Mayo Jaga (a combination of mayonnaise, potato and bacon), eel and squid are the favorites. Green peas top Brazilian pizzas and Russians love red herring pizza. It is sold in pockets, breads and rolls. There is pan pizza, stuffed pizza, thin crust pizza, thick crust pizza, and bagel pizza; to name just a few. Simply put, pizza has come a long way since its origin and can now be termed a "world treat."

building a wood fired pizza oven
Outdoor Wood Fired Pizza Oven?

We are in the process of designing an outdoor kitchen. Anyone out there have an outdoor wood fired pizza oven? Can you share your recommendations on what dimensions/materials or design specfics we should consider/recommend to our contractor?

We're probably looking for a small one 54x52 but we definitely want it built into the grill/bar island that will be constructed.

Also if you've owned an outdoor wood fired pizza oven - can you share feedback on how often you use it and how's the upkeep?

The size depends on the needs of your family or your entertainment intentions.
Go to a display center where they sell wood fired pizza ovens and get some info there. Doesn't seem like the upkeep would be very extensive

Toaster Ovens: 5 Quick Steps to Choosing the Best Toaster Oven

Today's toaster ovens have gone past merely toasting bread or bagels. They can bake, broil, and even convection cook everything from pizzas, casseroles and baked goods to a four pound roast with little effort. Toaster ovens are an economical and easy to use cooking choice for today’s active households.

Toaster ovens come in scores of shapes and sizes and offer a huge selection of features. Consider the following tips when choosing a toaster oven:

Step1:  How Much Can You Spend for a Toaster Oven?

You can find a toaster oven to meet any price range and preference. Basic no-frills countertop ovens start at around $30. Many top-rated ovens are priced at less than $100. Upper-end multi-function toaster ovens usually cost from $150-$300.

Step 2: Which Cooking Method Do You Want?

If you’re simply planning on using your toaster oven for toasting and warming dishes, one of the more rudimentary models will most likely work fine.  If you are looking for a toaster oven to use for baking or broiling, investigate ones that cook using either a convection or infrared (or infrawave) warming option.

Convection toaster ovens have a little fan to disperse hot air inside the oven.  This helps brown food more evenly and can reduce cooking time by up to 30%.  Convection toaster ovens are extremely popular - although they cost a bit more,  many chefs prefer the convenience and faster cooking time.

Toaster ovens with infrared (infrawave) heating elements don't call for pre-heating, which trims cooking time. Infrared is also helpful in accelerating the toasting process.  Black & Decker is the only major toaster oven manufacturer that currentl offers the infrared cooking option.

Step 3:  Which Convenience Features Should Your Toaster Oven Have?

Toaster ovens are controlled by a dial timer or a digital key pad.  Most chefs find the digital toaster ovens simpler to use.  Digital toaster ovens provide a more accurate setting selection, and frequently feature pre-set functions for commonly cooked foods.

Toaster ovens with non-stick interiors and continual clean features make cleaning a snap. Be sure to look for a removable crumb tray – front-access crumb trays are much more user-friendly to use.

Step 4:  Don't Forget Safety!

Numerous toaster ovens have an automatic shut off feature, which will shut the oven off at the end of the cooking cycle. Some will merely ring a bell and continue to cook until you turn it off. The automatic shut off feature is highly recommended!

For households with little kids, look for cool-touch sides. The toaster oven’s sides should not reach an excessive temperature during use.

Step 5: What Size Toaster Oven Do You Need?

Toaster ovens are usually referred to as 6 slice or 4 slice toaster ovens, which refers to the number of slices of bread that will fit in the oven at once.

Toaster ovens can be found in sizes differing from as small as 10x10 inches to as large as 20x16 inches.  Basic toaster ovens which are merely used for toasting or re-heating foods are generally smaller in both size and capacity.

If you're planning to bake casseroles or roast larger cuts of meat in your countertop oven, you'll want a larger model.

No matter which size you choose, be sure to measure your counter space before ordering your toaster oven!

Patio Pizza Oven

6 Ways To Create A Lively Outdoor Living Space (talk about outdoor verandas)

Australians are happiest in their own backyard. Enjoying a meal and drinks with friends and making the most of being outdoors. Here are six ways to help your outdoor patio come to life.

1. Lighting

No doubt a substantial amount of the time spent on your outdoor living space will be at night. Careful positioning of lights will improve the overall experience for your guests. This does not have to be restricted to electrical lighting but can include:

Solar lights – to light a path leading to the outdoor pergola are also cheap to run;

Candles – from tea lights to big chunky candles in glass bowls, the glow from a candle is soft, warm and romantic;

Garden torches – fill these with citronella and you have an insect free area as well as instant light.

2. Furniture

Grab a magazine or brochure from your local furniture store and take it home to compare the look within your own area. Manufacturers know that people want furniture more suited for use under their pergolas or verandas. Designs nowadays use robust fabrics, such as canvas that are less likely to fade or be affected by rain.

Cane or wicker chairs and tables are a stylish look without the expense of timber furniture.

3. Cooking area

Don't spend all your time in the kitchen or down the backyard at the bar-b-cue while your friends are enjoying themselves on your decking. Better yet why not get the guests to participate in the cooking?

By adding an electric wok or frypan to your dining table you can produce meals on the spot. Mongolian hotpots or Japanese sukiyaki make a delightful change from the chop on a barby.

Mexican chimineas not only warm an area but can be converted for use as a wood fired BBQ or pizza oven.

4. Plants and landscape

Nothing says life more than plants. Carefully landscaped verandas with flower beds on the edge of the deck bring the sense of nature from the garden into your living area. Potted plants scattered around or clumped in groups are a nice addition.

5. Floors and coverings

Concrete verandas can be given a new lease of life with a coat of hardwearing paint. Make sure you acid wash first especially newly concreted floors. This will help the paint to adhere to the surface. Timber decks can be spruced up with a light sanding and coat of oil.

Finish the look with some scatter rugs or rush matting.

6. Heating

There's nothing worse than going to a party and spending the night freezing. Braziers and chimineas while not the most efficient form of heating because of the amount of fuel they use, create atmosphere and a focal point for your guests to stand around and keep warm.

Gas patio heaters come in a variety of styles and sizes from table top versions, stand alone or smaller units mounted to the eaves. They look good too with stainless steel or black finishes.

Stratco verandas offer a great range with their outback style and have been servicing Australians for generations. They can lay the foundations for a fantastic outdoor area and all you need is the imagination to bring the area to life.

Puerto Vallarta’s Best Thin-Crust Pizza

The coves and beaches of Mexico’s Pacific coast offer the perfect setting for your next out-of-town vacation, and Puerto Vallarta is the place to settle in for a week or two. Every day brings the promise of new adventures, and you can’t help but enjoy the colorful, sometimes exotic, local culture. So find a House For Rent in Puerto Vallarta and get going.

Be merry, then eat and drink
Make big plans to do something new every day: ride a zip line through the jungle canopy; swim with dolphins; shop for treasures at the flea market. Explore the local cuisine; eat and drink like you don’t care if your business suit fits when you get home. If you insist on worrying about your waistline, indulge your taste buds with a somewhat healthy treat from one of the city’s local pizza places. Here are a few recommendations from folks in the know:

  • La Piazetta, at Olas Altas and Rodolfo Gomez, a part of town the proprietor identifies as “Vallarta’s Little Italy,” gets high marks from just about everyone who’s tried it. The menu features 24 different versions of the chef’s thin crust pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven. Try something different: the Sor Mimmo features mushrooms and shrimp; the Mexicana is stacked with beans and chorizo.
  • Café Candela continues to be a favorite “romantic date” spot for many visitors to Puerto Vallarta. They serve Mediterranean and vegetarian food as well as pizza, and their menu features ingredients drawn from the local area. You can find this quiet, out-of-the-way spot at Guerrero 311.
  • Pietro’s is downtown at Zaragoza 245. This little restaurant had quite a reputation, back in the day (it’s rumored to be Puerto Vallarta’s oldest pizza place), and many people will tell you they still enjoy it. This is not an all-night place, though, so you might want to arrive before 9:00 p.m.
  • Café Roma is high on the list for many visitors, both because of the good food and because folks like the friendly staff and lively crowd. You’re more likely to run into other tourists here than at some smaller establishments, and it’s probably not the place to go for a quiet evening out. If you’re looking for “the best real Italian thin crust pizza,” the staff promises you’ll find it at Encino 287.

One of the great things about finding a House For Rent in Puerto Vallarta is the kitchen, and in particular, the refrigerator. Before you reach the point where one more bite would prove disastrous, ask if you can have the rest of your pie “to go.” Slip it in the fridge and – voila – breakfast!

The Best Pizza In Henderson Nevada

It's just my opinion but I think I have found the best pizza in the Henderson Nevada area. I have been eating pizza since I was 3 years old and I cannot get enough of the stuff. I consider myself a good judge of the cheesy stuff because of the amount of pies I have eaten. I have eaten pizza in Georgia, California, New York, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, Nevada, Kentucky, and in multiple cities in those states and countries. I have eaten everything from Thin New York style, Chicago deep dish to homemade pies not to include frozen microwave junk. On a week to week basis I would guess I eat pizza 3 to 4 out of 7 nights.

So what have I found in the Henderson Nevada area that is making me say yes this is great pizza. Nothing! That's correct, not one place has impressed me as the best pizza in Henderson Nevada. I have eaten Papa john's, Dominos, Little Caesars, Gramaldis, Rosatis, Pizza Hut, Metro Pizza, Anthony's wood fired Pizza, Tombstone, Red baron, Mama de Palmas, Napoli, Fox Pizza, and a few other places not worth mentioning. Not one has impressed me as the best. Don't get me wrong these guys are good but not the best.

Does anyone get it? Does anyone have the New York thin crust, huge slice cheesy greatness that I crave? I did find a small place named New York Pizza, good food, a little price but good, but they have no online presence, no way of ordering if you look them up online, and a pretty bad attitude that destroyed the taste for coming back to them.

My goal is to keep eating my way around town until I find a place that makes me a great pizza and has everything I am looking for. Cheesy cheese with the correct mix of chesses, and lots of toppings with a crust to die for. I love New York style but I guess around here you have to go to New York to get it. You know the huge cheese slices with that perfect taste that leaves you coming back for more. I miss New York but only for the pizza. I need the whole package when it comes to a pie made in a coal oven with the perfect mix of ingredients freshness and price. I am always open to suggestions and opened minded if anyone has any suggestions I will try it out and call it as I see it. Might even get a huge review on mylocalpizzaguy.com website. Here is to good pizza!

Home Brick Ovens

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]

Removing paint from a brick house?

Has anyone successfully removed paint from brick? We just bought a brick home, and it has area's where it looks like someone cleaned their paint brush off on the side of the house???? I heard oven cleaner and a metal brush. Do not want to pressure wash or sand blast. The house was built in the 80's, and I do not want to damage the bricks.

The best way to remove paint from brick is to use a gel or paste remover. It is tedious, but it will have the least impact on the brick itself. There are a lot of products that you can find simply by doing a web search

You are right to not want to sandblast or pressure wash. Sandblasting brick or stone surfaces, using dry or wet grit or other abrasives will permanently erode the surface of the brick and accelerate deterioration. Applying high pressure water will damage masonry and the mortar joints. Using a pressure washer also increases the risk of introducing moisture in to the wall cavity, which will eventually destroy any insulation you have, create mold, and if the brick is a veneer over wood framing, cause the wood to rot.

Good luck!

How do I get my home made pizza's crust to be a littile more crispy?

I put my pizza on the second setting from the bottom of the oven @ 425 for 14 min. The crust is done but it is just so soft. I also use the pizza pan with holes.
Should I put it on the very bottom setting in the oven?
Help please????????

I have one pan i use specifically for pizza. It is a flat iron pan with a removable side skirt so you can lift the side off and serve as is.

It has been blackened from several years of use and is perfectly seasoned for the job.

Wood Burning Brick Oven

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
wood burning brick oven

The Wood Burning Stoves Are A Timeless Classics

Traditionally, wood-burning freestanding stoves were used in ski cabins and lodges, but today thanks to new design concepts they have become a welcome addition to any home.

Wood-burning stoves can be installed in any room of your house, but most often they are placed in living or dining rooms, as well as in patios. While traditional fireplaces generally work as a piece of décor, free-standing wood-burning stoves are generally used for more practical purposes, namely, for heating and even cooking. Thanks to new designs, your wood-burning stove will look attractive and still remain perfectly functional. Because it isn't attached to the wall, a wood-burning stove will radiate more heat throughout a small or large room.

Most often, wood-burning stoves are usually built of stainless steel, soapstone or ceramics study stone and brick but can remain sleek and contemporary thanks to new materials such as fireproof glass and stainless steel details. The shape of these stoves is most commonly tall and cylindrical, with built-in wood storage under the burning chamber.

When choosing a new wood-burning stove, keep in mind that the size of your wood-burning stove is determined by the size of the space that needs to be heated. The fire of the stove should be substantial enough to please the eye as well as heat the room, but too much fire can literally turn your place into an oven.

When picking a place to put your new stove, avoid traffic areas such as doors. A stove surrounded by windows may be a good solution. The fire chamber door should face the room. Don't forget to take stovepipe requirements into the account, making sure they are in compliance with your local building codes. Since wood-burning stoves are not strictly fireplaces, they don't require any clearance between the fire chamber and surrounding combustible materials, such as wood or fabric.

Conventional wood-burning stoves vary in heat efficiency because their construction can be very different, too. The efficiency of a wood-burning stove depends on how much of its combustion energy turns to heat, which in its turn depends on how well it burns wood. Even the best wood-burning stoves don't burn all wood completely. The smoke is actually composed of unburned wood particles. Another factor that impacts the wood-burning stove's efficiency is how much heat escapes through the chimney.

To improve the efficiency of your wood-burning stove, consider a chimney sweep in the first place. This should be done by a professional fireplace expert. If you noticed that a lot of smoke is produced during the wood burning, you may need to alter the size of your stove opening, or reconfigure the existing fire chamber. If you notice that a lot of hot air escapes through the chimney, you may consider replacing the fire basket - the metal rack that supports the burning logs. New designs of fire baskets can greatly improve air circulation and heat efficiency.

Wood burning stoves today offer a great variety of looks and designs to suit any home style, from a retro Victorian house to a steel loft condo. Painted black, brushed steel or even red, with stovepipe to match, wood burning stoves with generous glass doors allow you admire the dancing flames during the cold winter season.

Pizza Ovens

what is the best way to clean commercial pizza ovens, outside and in!!?

i was told to use seltzer water, and also tap water with salt mixxed with a wire brush on a long wooden handle, but i was wondering if there is a better way that has worked for anyone else

Generally, I hate chemicals. But if I were you, I would get several cans of "Easy-Off Oven Cleaner" (I got the fume free type) and spray the stuff all over the inside of the oven. Wait about 24 hours, put on some chemical resistant gloves, and clean up the gunk inside. If you have to at that point, use a putty knife with a beveled edge on it to remove any residue that is still caked on hard. For the outside, use a product called "Krud Kutter" it won't ruin the finish, but will remove the crud.

Brick Oven Home

Where, outside of your home country, have you had the BEST pizza in the world?

Please, where outside of your own home country, have you had the best pizza in the world?
I live in the United States. I have had the BEST pizza in the entire world, swear on my life, on the island of Malta in the Meditterean Sea. I was there on holiday/vacation in January of 2007 and I ate an ENTIRE pizza every single night. I loved it so much.
It was a thinner crust pizza then you get in the US. It had spicy sausage, sundried tomatoes, spinach, ricotta cheese, and light pizza sauce. It was cooked in a brick oven and was the size of a large pizza from some place like Pizza Hut, just thinner crust.
I have tried so hard to re-create it at home or get it made at my local favourite pizza places, but it just isn't the same. I would go back there JUST to get some more of that pizza.

Share your experiences, please. :-)

P.S. I can eat that much pizza in one day. I am an athlete.

Actually the best pizza I had outside the U.S. was in Wurzburg, Germany at an Italian restaurant there. The pizza had a very thin crust, was baked in a stone oven, was very crispy and had some of the most delectable toppings.

Wood Play Kitchen - Ageless Treasure

A handcrafted wooden play kitchen is a present created for passing down for generations. Children play with play kitchens for a number of years. As a result, the kitchens are a good value like that. Then, if you get a wooden one with the plan of passing it down for generations, you enhance value.

There are two varieties of wooden play kitchens.
One form is the mass-produced "wooden" pretend kitchen set. "Wooden" is a word used loosely in this instance. The wood is in fact a composite materiall made from wood and glue. A different expression for these  is press wood. In the near past, this type of panel regularly contained formaldehyde. Generally, a layer of melamine covers the board to give it a smooth appearance.

This sort of manufactured play kitchen set is delivered in a flat pack. You must assemble it. It may well take numerous hours to put together. Initially manufactured in China, or other country with cheap manufacturing, they are mass-marketed in the United States.

There is an additional variety of wooden play kitchen. These kitchen play sets are built from solid wood such as cherry or pine. Created with a sense of realism, they encourage a kid's imagination. These kitchen play sets have all the appliances: a stove, sink and oven. The big variance is that most everything is made from wood. The knobs are hand cut from wood and the burners are wooden. You can tell the burners are burners, but they do not have the realistic look found in manufactured kitchens..

Normally, these wooden pretend kitchens are made here the United States by a small group of or individual enthusiastic craftsmen. They are personally made and usually assembled. They either have a natural finish, or come unfinished. Attention is taken to avoid any type of detrimental finishes.

These pretend kitchens are capable of passing for top quality wooden pieces of furniture. Such is the workmanship, quality and detail of the product. The kitchens also have the advantage of being entirely assembled, or required putting together a couple of pieces. In interest of saving on shipping costs, some newer designs ship in flat packs, but are very easy to assemble

Because these kitchens are handcrafted, they can cost a bit extra. However, large plastic toy kitchen sets may cost as much and take up muchadditional space. The same can be said about the bulk manufactured imported kitchens.

Your choices are simple. Choose a simply designed wood play kitchen. Or, you purchase a mass manufacture item.
