Small Wood Fired Hobbie Kiln For Home?

Hi everyone I knew to the whole clay thing, and no one in my area has a kiln. The kids are looking to do some pottery and whatnot and I much prefer the idea of actual clay and firing as opposed to using something like sculpey for fimo in the oven. I had a friend who used to do firings in his backyard in an old fire pit, his kids made small pots and bowls and he used wood and saw dust to fuel it. Ive seen the results and they came out very nice! Im looking to do something the same and I want to keep it small as the largest thing ill be firing is about the size of a kettle. Any plans ive seen are the size of a barn! Can anyone help me out here? And I want it to fire at the normal temp so it doesnt leave everything super fragile. Any help would be great :)

There is a book called, "Alternative Firing Methods" the describes several processes for firing clay without a kiln. Pit Firing, Sawdust Firing, Raku Firing, etc.
