baking wood for a reptile enclosure?

i have some mazanita wood that i want to use in a blue tongue skink enclosure. i think you have to bake it, but ut has this really nice, cool looking, bright green moss on it. how should i disinfect the wood. will the oven affect the moss. also i am building an enclosure so coult i use some sealer or stain on the inside or outside. thanks how long should i bake it and at what temp also

I don't know how the moss will be affected, more than likely it will be killed by the oven. You wouldn't want the moss in the tank anyway. BTS will eat vegetation and without knowing if eating the moss would harm him I wouldn't put it in the tank. As to cooking temps I believe the general consensus is to cook at 350-375 for 30 min. You can use a stain or sealer on the outside for certain, more than likely you can use it on the inside but I wouldn't do it. Even getting a "non toxic" stain will more than likely leave a bit of smell in the tank and you don't want to expose your BTS to chemicals. Personally I would leave the wood on the inside free of stain/sealer. Make sure the stain/sealer has dried for at least a day before putting the lizard in the tank to help minimize the scent of the stain.
