Two Very Good Reasons To Bake Your Own Bread
There are two very good reasons why baking your own bread, whether or not you use a bread making machine, is an excellent idea.
First and foremost is the simple fact that you and only you will decide on the ingredients that go into your bread. With a loaf of bread bought from the supermarket you will have no real idea of what is in it. There might be additives and preservatives as well as unhealthy levels of salt, for example, and it will not be possible to gain a real sense simply by glancing at the ingredients list on the packet, particularly in the short time available to you standing in the supermarket aisle. You will have no real idea whether the flour is genetically modified or whether the so called 'E' numbers are dangerous ones at an unacceptable level.
So, the answer is to make your own bread! You and only you will decide what goes into it. You will need no preservatives, of course, and you will also be able to limit the salt content, which may be vital if any member of your household has heart problems, for example. It will also be for you to decide what flour to use and you could choose organic, for example, for a truly healthy loaf.
Remember that this will not apply if you use a ready made bread mix. The decision on the ingredients will be made for you by the manufacturer of the mix and you will be left looking at the list on the side of the packet and wondering whether it is really healthy or not. The answer, of course, is to use your own mix and there are any number of recipes for a healthy loaf of bread available for free online.
The second significant advantage is the potential saving in money. Even if you use a bread maker, which may cost upto £120.00 to buy new, the substantial difference between the cost of a loaf of bread in the shop and the ingredients alone for a home baked loaf is really quite marked. Certainly, a bread making machine will very soon pay for itself, even if you decide to use ready made bread mixes instead of your own recipe!
Few things compare with the smell of freshly baked bread, except perhaps freshly ground coffee, and with a breadmaker you can have fresh, healthy bread available to you every day and at a substantial cost saving too. Most bread makers include a timer that will even enable you to wake up to fresh bread every day!
