Is it possible to make pastry with the help of a bread machine?
I've my bread maker up and running now for a few months and am quite happy with the results I'm getting. I would, however, like to expand my limited output to include pastry. So my question is this. With a bread machine is it possible prepare dough for pastry such as you'd find in an apple tart (short crust rather than puff pastry)? If it is possible would you be so kind as to post a recipe or supply a link to where I might get a recipe.
With bread and pizza I use strong flour, if I prepare pastry dough in my bread maker what sort of bread would I need: self raising, ordinary white or whatever?
Many thanks
I'd be pretty surprised if that worked, since bread machines are made to work with yeast dough, which is kept warm, rather than pastry, which not only needs to be cold, but needs to be mixed just right. If you do try it, use cake flour, it doesn't have as much protein as all purpose. If you have a mixer, it would accomplish the same thing, with much more controllable results. Bread makers really aren't suited to anything but bread.
