Hubby has a ham and cheese and tomato sandwich with chips (Doritos) every workday for lunch, is this unhealthy
Just wondering if this is an unhealthy habit or not? He's done this for years and years. He works 6 days a week so he eats this same thing for lunch 6 days a week. He makes his sandwich with either white (most of the time) or wheat bread(it isn't even whole or whole grain wheat, just wheat) and he doesn't put any mayo on it. So it's just the bread, regular ham or sometimes he uses oven roasted turkey or chicken breast, some mozarella cheese on it and 3 tomato slices and that's it. He has one sandwich a day with a small bag of chips, usually Doritos. Plus for a snack he takes 3 or 4 Oreo cookies or some other kind of sandwich cookie w/ cream in the middle. Is this unhealthy? I mean comparing it to what the cafeteria options at work are, mostly fried chicken, french fries, pizza, onion rings, fried okra, stuff like that, I'd say his lunch brought from home is 'healthier' than the stuff they have there, but is it actually healthy?
Well.....comparing it to the junk out there, his lunch is probably healthier than all the fried stuff, but with a few substitutions it could be much healthier. Get baked chips or veggie chips, a fruit instead of cookies, lunch meat that doesn't contain nitrates and other preservatives, have tuna occasionally. Also, 100% whole wheat or whole grain bread is always best. Also, get more veggies in. Tomatoes are good but tomatoes with a small bag of veggies cut up like celery, carrots, peppers, mushrooms, is better and then he can snack on that throughout the day.
Someone else asked this and it's a good question....how's his cholesterol, blood pressure, weight? Is he generally healthy?
