Puerto Vallarta’s Best Thin-Crust Pizza

The coves and beaches of Mexico’s Pacific coast offer the perfect setting for your next out-of-town vacation, and Puerto Vallarta is the place to settle in for a week or two. Every day brings the promise of new adventures, and you can’t help but enjoy the colorful, sometimes exotic, local culture. So find a House For Rent in Puerto Vallarta and get going.

Be merry, then eat and drink
Make big plans to do something new every day: ride a zip line through the jungle canopy; swim with dolphins; shop for treasures at the flea market. Explore the local cuisine; eat and drink like you don’t care if your business suit fits when you get home. If you insist on worrying about your waistline, indulge your taste buds with a somewhat healthy treat from one of the city’s local pizza places. Here are a few recommendations from folks in the know:

  • La Piazetta, at Olas Altas and Rodolfo Gomez, a part of town the proprietor identifies as “Vallarta’s Little Italy,” gets high marks from just about everyone who’s tried it. The menu features 24 different versions of the chef’s thin crust pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven. Try something different: the Sor Mimmo features mushrooms and shrimp; the Mexicana is stacked with beans and chorizo.
  • Café Candela continues to be a favorite “romantic date” spot for many visitors to Puerto Vallarta. They serve Mediterranean and vegetarian food as well as pizza, and their menu features ingredients drawn from the local area. You can find this quiet, out-of-the-way spot at Guerrero 311.
  • Pietro’s is downtown at Zaragoza 245. This little restaurant had quite a reputation, back in the day (it’s rumored to be Puerto Vallarta’s oldest pizza place), and many people will tell you they still enjoy it. This is not an all-night place, though, so you might want to arrive before 9:00 p.m.
  • Café Roma is high on the list for many visitors, both because of the good food and because folks like the friendly staff and lively crowd. You’re more likely to run into other tourists here than at some smaller establishments, and it’s probably not the place to go for a quiet evening out. If you’re looking for “the best real Italian thin crust pizza,” the staff promises you’ll find it at Encino 287.

One of the great things about finding a House For Rent in Puerto Vallarta is the kitchen, and in particular, the refrigerator. Before you reach the point where one more bite would prove disastrous, ask if you can have the rest of your pie “to go.” Slip it in the fridge and – voila – breakfast!
