Is it safe to put wood in a regular oven to make wood oven pizza at home?
Is it safe, or will the wood catch on fire?
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The oven is a regular kitchen oven.
Also what type of wood should be used?
"wood oven pizza" is more commonly referred to as 'Wood Fired Pizza" > If I am guessing correctly, you are referring to the same kind of pizza that places like Sammy's and California Pizza Kitchen make in a big indoor wood BURNING oven. That is the actual meaning of Wood Fired Pizza. It is done in a large oven lined with firebricks (or similar construction) and burns various kinds of wood to add a smoky flavor to the pizza. NO you cannot do this in a home oven, unless you plan on making enough for the local fire dept. to chow down after they (hopefully) save your house. One of the other answers mentioned a pizza stone, those are good to use in an oven as they help crisp the bottom of the pizza. You can do it on an outdoor BBQ grill, with woodchips (used the same way for adding smoke flavor to steaks). You might look at this page for a good one.
